The Golden Hour Myth
Every photography tutorial tells you to shoot during golden hour — the warm, soft light just after sunrise and just before sunset. And they are not wrong: golden hour light is beautiful. But treating it as the only time to shoot is a limitation masquerading as wisdom.
Harsh midday light creates dramatic shadows and high contrast. Overcast skies produce even, diffused light perfect for portraits. Blue hour — the period just before sunrise and after sunset — casts an ethereal quality that golden hour cannot match. And night photography opens an entirely different world of possibilities.
Learn to work with the light you have, not just the light you wish you had. The best camera is the one you have with you; the best light is the light that is falling right now.
